What Does It Mean To Live The Kind Of Life That Matters?
Written by Jimmie Burroughs
How would you answer the question at the end of lifedid your life actually matter?
What matters in life must first be decided before someone can decide how they can live a life that matters “Nothing matters unless it counts absolutely.” Dr. William Vallicella. What forms the root of your faith decides whether anything matters, or if everything matters; there isn’t any grey area.
Today the supposition that there aren’t any absolutes, held by some university professors, must also conclude that nothing actually matters. If evolution forms the bases of your belief, once again nothing actually matters. Evolution is the assumption that nothing nothing = everything, so everything points back to nothing and nothing doesn’t matter. If that sounds a little silly, it’s because it is, just like evolution is silly. The single reason anyone could ever believe a concept as insane as evolution is because there is not any other alternative aside from believing in God.
Therefore , the very first prerequisite for deciding what matters in life is accepting the existence of God. As there are many who are not intending to do that, the sole answer for them is to live in an incomprehensible existence that doesn’t count. Sorry, but by your own belief there is not any other alternative. For those that accept God’s existence there’s hope. Hope in purpose that does matter; hope in achievements that does matter; hope in heaven and everlasting life. I don’t know about you but the second view sure sounds far better than the first. Since the decision is yours to make, why not make the choice that does matter? “ Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:” Matthew 7:13 .
What matters?
Broadly everything matters but for the sake of simpleness and brevity there are 3 things that extremely matters.
What you believe
How you make a response to what you think
How you live
What you suspect determines the rest about you and especially the path you opt to take in your life. As an example, if you have a belief in evolution, what makes the difference whether somebody lives or dies; life has no intrinsic value. On the other hand if you believe that there’s a plan and organization to life that is created by a supreme being, life is dear, has meaning and purpose and is to be saved.
Belief dictates how one reacts to all of life’s questions. If there are no absolutes and everything we see and touch is only a result of a series of random accidents occurring over millions of years with no logic, then all things are meaningless. There is not any possible hope. Dead or alive… neither matters.
How you live will result from what you think and how you respond to what you believe . An individual who accepts the grim reality of God has a justification for wanting to find out more about God. They are going to have choices to make on that belief as to how they view God. Is he a God that has our best interest at heart? Is he a personable, knowable God? Is the Bible an Accurate account of God? Is there life after death and does God offer a person everlasting life in heaven?
Finally, how you live will be the results of how you respond to those questions above.
How then can we live a life that matters?
After you identify that there are absolutes in life and that there’s a personable, knowable God, then your purpose in life takes on an alternative meaning. Things that once could have been top concerns no longer seem to matter at all. Now you see clearly and recognise that there’s more to life than emptiness. There’s purpose and hope. You now stand on the threshold to satisfy that purpose and to find out that hope.
Without God there isn’t any hope! With him we are able to claim our life and live it as per his will and purpose. We currently have a road map of purpose in his word, the Bible, to lead and direct all of life. We know where we came from and where we are going. No longer is there doubt and misunderstanding. The way to live life that matters is now clear. God. Is the master and captain of our ship; he’s in control; we belong to him and are his responsibility. Now as the Apostle Paul declared, “For me to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21.
Learn how to have a liaison with God today.
Conclusion:
Living a life that matters is not guesswork for me. I have been living it for longer than a large amount of those reading this have been alive. I would not tell you the things above to delude you. I know from a lifelong experience what makes life matter and what gives the things which every heart longs for: love, joy and peace. I’m hoping you will at least consider what I have asserted and search it out for yourself.
