This is becoming more and more popular, because as time goes on, the world is getting smaller. Everyone wants to know everything about other cultures, and since you don’t have time to learn every other language, a great way to listen to books form other countries, if you are French, is to get the French audio books of those novels.

Another way it can come in handy is if you are trying to learn French. If your listening French is better than your reading French, you can get the French version of a story you know very well, and listen to it. You can even buy the book as well and follow along. If it is a story that you know well, you are going to be more likely to be able to understand it. That way, your French will improve, as well as your reading will improve as well.
